CAT BA – A DESTINATION THAT SAYS NO TO SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

Toward the goal of green and sustainable tourism, Cat Ba is taking collective action for a plastic-free environment. The "Say No to Single-Use Plastics" campaign is being strongly implemented across the entire archipelago, calling on residents, tourists, and businesses to change their habits—to reduce, reuse, and replace plastic products with eco-friendly alternatives. Let’s act together today – to preserve the green legacy for generations to come.

In accordance with Official Dispatch No. 63/UBND-KT dated July 9, 2025, issued by the People’s Committee of Cat Hai Special Zone regarding coordination in promoting the “Plastic-Free July” program, the Management Board of the Bays within the Cat Ba Archipelago has issued a comprehensive plan to implement the campaign across all bays under its jurisdiction.

1. Embracing a future of sustainable and green tourism

Accordingly, travel agencies, tour operators, and tour guides are responsible for directly informing tourists about the ban on single-use plastics from the moment a tour is booked and throughout the entire visit to the bays of the Cat Ba Archipelago.

Tour boat operators are required to communicate and promote this regulation to all passengers, emphasizing that bringing or using single-use plastic products while visiting the bay is strictly prohibited. In addition, tour boats must commit not to provide, sell, or use any single-use plastic items, including plastic cups, straws, water bottles, containers, bowls, plates, and plastic bags (except for pre-packaged food bags from manufacturers, medical supplies, and specific products that currently have no suitable alternatives).

All organizations and individuals involved in tourism and service activities in the bays of the Cat Ba Archipelago are obligated to use environmentally friendly alternatives, prioritizing biodegradable and reusable materials, with the goal of minimizing plastic waste released into the environment.

2. Recommendations for Tourists

- Do not bring or use single-use plastic products such as plastic bottles, cups, straws, plastic bags, and foam food containers.
- Prepare eco-friendly alternatives in advance, including personal water bottles, reusable cups or bottles, cloth bags,
reusable food containers, and environmentally friendly personal items.
- Follow the instructions of tour guides, boat operators, and staff from the Management Board throughout your visit.
- Do not litter; help keep the environment clean and contribute to spreading the image of a green, clean, beautiful, and
civilized Cat Ba tourism.

With the message “Say No to Single-Use Plastics – For a Greener Cat Ba”, the Management Board of the Bays within the Cat Ba Archipelago calls for the active participation and united efforts of tourism businesses, organizations, individuals, and all visitors to protect the marine ecosystem, preserve the natural values and unique landscapes, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Cat Ba – Lan Ha Bay.

Every small action today contributes to a big difference for the green future of the Cat Ba Archipelago – a precious natural heritage of Vietnam and the world.
